"Well I lived in the middle of nowhere with my parents for quite a while. They trained me. At once I had surpassed them in skill, I decided to leave and find somewhere that would challenge me and pull out my full potential. So I came here. I had heard about how good your army was here and I figured I would give it a shot." Leo said, shrugging.

"Really?" She asked, tilting her head in interest. "What highly skilled parents you would have had to have if that's all the training you received. So then that's why you came here? Interesting." Desiree lowered her eyes, thinking of something for a bit. "Do you know anything about the human attack a year ago?"

Leo's expression got serious. "Wait, that was here?" he asked quickly. "Yeah. I heard about it. I wanted to come and help but my parents wouldn't let me at the time. Although, that was probably a good thing they didn't. I heard it was a really nasty war..."

Desiree nodded, "I wouldn't call it a war, but it certainly was a terrible night. Fires razed the whole village for a long time, this building right here is on top of an old residential section. A lot of good people died or fled after wards. There was a scout that tried her best to stop the humans despite her injuries. Still alive now, but she's paralyzed in a leg and has partial usage of the other. If you see her in the wheelchair with the blonde hair around you better give her some kindness. She's a hero." Desiree gulped down some air for a moment as the memories returned. "That's what really got us to focus on the military, to many scouts and healers. Not enough people fighting." She leaned back in the chair. "Got a few scars from it, not like you can see them anyways. But still pretty bad. I remember watching about twenty people rushing around to put out a fire while I was dazed and bleeding on the side of the path."

"I'm sorry to hear that." Leo said sadly. "And if I see the person you are talking about, I will be sure to say hi... At least y'all are prepared now. I mean, military wise. I also hope I can be of assistance in helping this military any way I can."

"Considering your obvious talent, once we get it nice and refined, you'll be an excellent soldier. To be honest here I hope we won't have much need for your real skills, but we all know the humans." Desiree said with a tired sigh. "I just can't wait for the day the humans won't fear us and will just leave us alone. After all were the same as them in our human form. We even call it our human form for crying out loud!" She flopped back down against the back of the chair with frustration. "Sorry." Desiree said.

Lex watched as a waiter came back in calling out a glass of milk. "I got it!" He shouted. Grabbing a glass, he filled it with the white liquid. Walking out the door he slowly walked through the tables to Disiree and Leo. He was constantly making sure no one was fallowing him.

Alex headed back into the village, leaving her brother behind in the forest. She made her way down the almost empty road, looking around at the semi-starved poor families on this side of the village. Even though they didn't have much, the families still got by. Alex walked over to a small child, who had recently learned she was a shifter. "Hey, Fin. How's your shifting coming along?"
Serafina looked up at Alex with a wide, childish grin that lit up her face. Her short, spiky, mangled blonde hair showed the lack of personal care the child was provided with. "Alex!" Fin wrapped her arms around Alex's legs, hugging her. After letting go, the excited child exclaimed excitedly, "It's been coming along great! I think I got the hang of it."

Marie had been traveling for a while. She wasn't sure how long it had been, a year maybe? But it doesn't matter. She won't go back. She had nothing back there. Her parents treated her like crap. She was a misfit, looking for an island to land on that would accept her.

She walked up to the entrance to what looked like a small village. She smiled. Maybe this can be my new start. She walked into the village and began looking around.

Leo began shaking his head, not in disagreement, but in mutual expression. "No, you're completely correct. I agree with you one hundred percent. The humans should just see us as another person, another equal, yet they still won't concede and still think of us as monsters, abominations if you must. It's a sad thing, really, if you think about it..."

Jon started chasing after Lex. When he saw him near their table, he started fuming. "Excuse me, sir," he said, as calmly as he could. "But I don't believe that you are actually a waiter here, much less waiting this table here. Is there something special about this table that makes you so attached to it? And please give me back that glass of milk," he said, holding out his hand.

Andrew was wandering around, boredom plain on his face. He had nothing to do, nor anyone to talk to. Then he spotted a girl in the forest, one he didn't recognize and got curious. As he made his way through the brush, his presence was well known from his heavy footsteps. Apparently even as a human, his bear side showed through a bit. "Hello?" He called out to the girl to get her attention. Andrew was still standing several yards behind her.

Marie jumped at Andrew's voice and turned around quickly to see him standing there. She relaxed, relieved that he looked friendly, at least. "Hi. Sorry, you kinda scared me there."

The tall, tanned, twenty year old continued to make his way over to her, stepping over tree roots and piles of leaves as he spoke, "Sorry. Didn't mean to startle you. I'm just not so sure we've met?" He stepped up to the younger girl and held out his hand, introducing himself, "My names Andrew."

Marie smiled, shaking Andrew's hand. "And I'm Marie. I have actually been traveling for about a year now. I just happened to stumble across this village here." she said, indicating to the small village behind her.

Andrew smiled and attempted to make a joke, "May look small on the outside, but it's big on the inside." He chuckled, then shook his head and cleared his throat, "That joke was stupid. Sorry. Ignore that.." He reached up and scratched the back of his head, looking at the floor somewhat awkwardly.

Andrew gave her a big, welcoming smile and said, "Sure. Follow me." He stepped past her and began heading into the village.

Andrew slowed his pace so that they were side by side. As he stepped into one of the streets, he pointed from building to building, "There's the Library. It's not very big, but, it's better than nothing. And over there is the bakery. Lots of good food there. Right next door is the butcher shop. Then over here, this is Ali's. The villagers who've actually got money to spare, like to get their clothes and fabrics from there." Andrew then paused, stopping in his tracks to examine Marie. "Mind if I ask something?"

Marie looked at him with a confused expression on her face. "What? What is a shifter? I have never heard that term used before?" she asked, now curious.

"Oh. Never mind. That's just a family name of someone around here," he lied. Andrew wasn't sure if he was allowed to explain it to normal people or not.

"Oh..." she said thinking. Then Marie thought of something. "Well what makes them NOT normal? I mean, you asked if I was normal or if I was a shifter, so what makes shifter's not normal?"

"Well, uhm.." He wasn't sure how to answer. The words just began rolling off his tongue, "The shifters are the main piece of this village. People come from all around with the Shifter name and stay here, taking up their own roles in the village, protecting it." He hoped she would believe him.
